10 Things Book Bloggers Worry About

2 May, 2012 Musing Musers 45 comments

1. Why don’t I ever get plagiarized?  Is it cause I suck?

2. Does this banner make my blog look fat?

3. I only got ten print ARCs this week!  I’m a total failure.

4. Are people not commenting because they hate me?

5. At least I have more page views than X… if I divide the number of times both our blogs have been in circulation and multiply by my awesomeness.

6. Did they follow me because they like me or because they want a follow back?

7. X is so mainstream, unlike me.

8. Have I used the word “Awesome” too many times in this review?

9. Will the author/publisher like my review?

10. Am I famous yet?

OMG. As soon as I saw #1 I started laughing. Dude. That is soooo me. Every time someone gets plagiarized, I start thinking my reviews and my blog must suck! Too funny. You are really tuned in to what book bloggers think!

  2. Lisa @ Fic Talk

    Hahahah! Great post, Kat!
Dude! You are AWESOME! 😉 LOL!

Btw, if I were a blogger receiving 10 print ARCs a MONTH instead of a week, I SO wouldn’t be complaining, man.

  3. Fangs for the Fantasy

    *snorfle* this is, indeed, awesome.

I used to fret about authors hating me becasue even though I liked their books, I always added some criticism and they’d think I hated them

Of course, then i found that no matter how negative the review, a good author will be polite about it (Kate Elliot, LJ Kentowski – truly class acts guys) and no matter how positive a review, an unprofessional author will lose their shit over it (names… not mentioned to protect the guilty)

  4. Pocketful of Books

Tee hee. I actually thought number 2 today after getting some comments about how big my header is…IT IS A FATTY AND I LIKE IT! x

    • Kat Kennedy

@Pocketful of Books: I like big banners and I can not lie. These other bloggers can’t deny. When a page walks in with an itty-bitty side-bar and a big banner in your face we get – SPRUNG!

*Steph will never let me live this down.

  5. Heidi

Love it! Made me laugh, it is funny but there is a lot of truth in it as well!

  6. Amanda @FancyOatmeal

LOVE this post! I laughed right out loud about does this banner make my blog look fat! I also worry that people who don’t click “like” who have “liked” my posts in the past are starting to hate me.

    • Kat Kennedy

@Amanda @FancyOatmeal: They are. They told me about it. We meet and have weekly meetings about how we’re not clicking like on your stuff anymore just to freak you out.

  7. Lexie B.

#5 is a particular favorite, but I’m a big fan of all 10. The funniest part is that they’re rather accurate.

Also, thumbs up for Forever Alone. I adore that face. I just want to hug it every time it appears on my screen.

    • Kat Kennedy

@Lexie B.: I am the WORST for number five. Ask Steph. She’ll be trying to show me something cool on a blog and I’ll be getting competitive and saying things like. “Well, if you divide by this and take in the exponential growth of our pageviews into account and factor in X then we’d have more page views than them!”

  8. Kate C.

Number one is HILARIOUS. The author version of that is, “I haven’t gotten pirated yet. Is that good or because my book sucks.” I’m probably the only one out there who will cheer when I show up on bittorrent (or wherever), because I’ll KNOW I’m famous.

As for number 2… I didn’t want to say anything.

  9. Reut

I haven’t thought most of these, to be honest, even though they are totally ridiculous; but I totally admit to at times worrying about 9 & 10. But then again.. most of us do, and I’ve always been famous in my own mind.

  10. Cyna

Oh god xD One and four. Although it’s usually more like “two days have passed, no comments”. FOREVER ALONE AWKWARD PENGUIN BLOGGER.

  11. Madigan

ROFL. I am dying over here, and my housemates are staring at me, like, “What?”
    Thanks for the “my-tummy-hurts-from-laughing-so-hard” lols.

I think you nailed it, here, you really did.

  12. Rachelia

Haha, love it! I especially love # 1 & 4 🙂 I think we definitely need a good laugh, and you certainly delivered a couple!

    • Kat Kennedy

@Lisbeth: I stand outside your door and watch you late at night. You talk in your sleep. It’s really cute.

  13. Archer

I never get comments on my blog so I don’t really worry about that but I do wonder if it’s worth it when people don’t like or tweet my reviews. It’d be nice to know I have some readers lol

    • Kat Kennedy

@Archer: Honestly, it just takes time, Archer. You only just started doing book reviews on your blog and you’re a great reviewer!

  14. Barbara

Oh crap. I’ve done all of these. I obsess over #2 every morning when I open my browser.

I’ve also been plagiarized but it was a crappy blog and at the time, all I thought was, “what, I’m not good enough that a decent blog would steal from me, it has to be an ugly one that barely gets any traffic?”

  15. Amanda

Lol. This is AWESOME. I’d plagiarize it, but I still wouldn’t get as many comments as you 😛

  16. Mary @ Book Swarm

This is AWESOME! ‘Cause most of us have worried about at least a couple of those at one point (then, of course, realized how utterly ridiculous that worry was and laughed at our stupid-headdedness!). And the graphics take it to another level of awesomeness.

  17. Nafiza Azad

Dude, I’m happy if someone comments on my post a week after it has been posted. Haha. Five minutes, psht.

  18. michelle

Very nice. 🙂 You always have the best images to go along with your posts — you are like the queen of google image or something.

  19. Alexia561

Awesome post! Sadly, I’ve thought almost all of them at one time or another. But if I got 10 ARCs in one week, I’d think I’d died and gone to book heaven! *L*
