Today along with YA Books Central, we have the pleasure of revealing FORBIDDEN by Kimberley Griffiths Little. And for the record, the cover is awesome, however, perhaps you’re wondering what her cover could have looked like if Kat designed it? Let your wonder become reality and check out these adorable rejects with commentary from Kimberly on why they would work or totally-no-get-it-away-from-me. Then check out the real cover and enter the giveaway!
I’m stealing your tagline for my book because Yes, it all is!! The big fancy cars, the huge mansion, and the million dollars I deserve for just being me—and it’s all locked up. The Outrage! But on a positive note, I love this cover’s image. If only that was a skeleton key that opened up a door to everything I’d ever dreamed of, we’d be set. It does remind me of a couple of Middle-Grade books I’ve written for Scholastic that have a strong influence with keys so I found it very interesting that you used a mysterious key . . . I may end up stealing this cover for another book I’m thinking about writing . . .
Getting a very Twilight-y feel from this cover, know what I mean? Rest assured I do not have a love triangle in my book, and I totally saw the rook being a hater on this relationship. But what’s wrong with two chess pieces being in love? They all come from the same mold—literally.
Ultimately, all I gotta say is, “You is BAD,” because I ain’t touchin’ *this* cover’s commentary with a 10-foot pole . . . But there is War in my book and devious chess players—I mean characters. My MC and her betrothed are going to try to one up each other until the ultimate checkmate.
Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden! Except Adam is MIA, I don’t see a snake, and Eve apparently is a Couture Fashion Ram girl. Love the idea of the forbidden apple. I also love the outfit and the shoes (I would have blisters the size of a baseball but it’s worth it in the name of fashion!) but I’m not so sure about that hair (I’m expecting Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games to pop up and call a fashion foul for stealing her ‘do).I get a strong Far Eastern vibe from this, and I’m waiting for the Ninjas to pop out from behind the tree wielding swords to duel to the death. As a cover for *my* FORBIDDEN book, I can tell you flat-out that the Tribal Elders would have had a fit over this girl’s leg cleavage.
And now, the REAL cover…
Huh. Well, we suppose that is gorgeous and perfect for crossover appeal. You win this round Cover Artist.
GUYS. I have been told that there is belly dancing. BELLY DANCING.
About the book:
Author: Kimberley Griffiths Little
Release date: November 4, 2014
In the unforgiving Mesopotamian desert where Jayden’s tribe lives, betrothal celebrations abound, and tonight it is Jayden’s turn to be honored. But while this union with Horeb, the son of her tribe’s leader, will bring a life of riches and restore her family’s position within the tribe, it will come at the price of Jayden’s heart.
Then a shadowy boy from the Southern Lands appears. Handsome and mysterious, Kadesh fills Jayden’s heart with a passion she never knew possible. But with Horeb’s increasingly violent threats haunting Jayden’s every move, she knows she must find a way to escape—or die trying.
With a forbidden romance blossoming in her heart and her family’s survival on the line, Jayden must embark on a deadly journey to save the ones she loves—and find a true love for herself.
