Guest Post: Kirsten Hubbard Author of Wanderlove and Giveaway

13 March, 2012 Giveaways, Guest Spotlight 34 comments

Today marks the publication date of one of my favorite books of 2012 that I’ve read so far, Wanderlove. I fell in love with the setting, characters and beautiful artwork. I hope you’ll check it out soon! To celebrate the release Kirsten Hubbard shares a video of her reading a passage from Wanderlove on a beach in Central America!  Also, be sure to stop on over at the YA Highway to check out the rest of the videos and enter their HUGE Wanderlove giveaway where you could win signed art prints, Rowan bracelets, and bookmarks!

This passage from WANDERLOVE is extra special, because it’s the text we chose for the back of the book. As with my last book, LIKE MANDARIN, I chose several evocative passages that carried the theme of the book, and I shared them with friends and my blog audience. In the case of both books, the one I secretly loved the most was also the one my readers went for. I should trust my judgment!

As teens (heck, even now), we often dream up these projected images of ourselves — the people we want to be. They’re usually draped in romance, colored by things like Tumblr feeds, music videos and Jeep commercials; not entirely realistic, but that doesn’t stop us from longing to BE that girl. WANDERLOVE is about Bria’s journey finding her real self in that fantasy — the bad along with the good, but also the truly transcendent.

About Kirsten Hubbard

A travel writer and young adult author, Kirsten Hubbard has hiked ancient ruins in Cambodia, dived with wild dolphins in Belize (one totally looked her in the eye), slept in a Slovenian jail cell, and navigated the Wyoming badlands (without a compass) in search of transcendent backdrops for her novels. She graduated from UCSD with a B.A. in Writing. When she’s not off wandering, she lives in San Diego, California.

She is the author of Like Mandarin (2011) and Wanderlove (2012), both published by Delacorte Press/Random House.

Thanks for the great post and giveaway! I actually read this one when it was on Netgalley but I’d love a print copy of it. It’s one of the few books I can see myself reading again and again. :)

AHHH! I love it! :D Gorgeous setting, and gorgeous excerpt. Just that excerpt alone gives us so much insight into Bria’s current state of mind. I really, really love that. And thank you so much for the giveaway! This one’s been hanging around the top of my TBR list for ages.

I LOVED that passage – it’s so true how we protect ourselves by switching off from being emotionally involved.

I can’t wait to read about the heroine, and I LOVE how Kirsten is an animal lover!! I loved her photos from the sloth sanctuary and she’s a genius artist as well:)
