Maisie Williams Cast In Forest Of Hands And Teeth
It’s a product of doing this column week after week that I forget sometimes, what stories I’ve done and haven’t done. So have I reported on Hands and Teeth being a movie? Or did I just miss it altogether? Well, no matter! The good news is, it’s happening and it will be starring Maisie Williams of GOT fame.
Williams is in negotiations to star in writer/director Kate Maberly adaptation of “The Forest of Hands and Teeth.”
Maberly is also producing the film with Doug Liman through her Hetherwood Productions.
Based on Carrie Ryan’s New York Times best-seller, the story is set “sometime in the future,” in a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals. Mary (Williams) seeks a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors. The survival of the human race soon becomes dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
“I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the ‘Forest’ and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s,” Maberly said. “We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.”
Girl On The Train Wants To Cast Some People
Hey look, The Girl On The Train wants Chris Evans (and Jared Leto) to star in their movie.
The Girl on the Train’s casting is chugging along (sorry) quite nicely. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation breakout Rebecca Ferguson recently joined Emily Blunt and Haley Bennett in the adaptation of the thriller novel from director Tate Taylor (The Help), rounding out the awesome cast of women. And now the DreamWorks production has its eye on a couple of men, with Jared Leto and Chris Evans circling leading roles in the upcoming film.
I’m thrilled about Evans, he’d make a great husband for Ann (sorry, can’t remember the guy’s name). But good lord, who picked Emily Blunt for the overweight, unattractive, alcoholic Rachel??? I will never understand Hollywood.
Miss Peregrine Gets A Bump Back
Fox is shaking things up all over the place. They’re moving a bunch of movies around with ultimate disappointing news for us: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is getting an later release date.
Tim Burton‘s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will open on Christmas Day in 2016. The film, based on Ransom Riggs‘ debut novel, had been scheduled to launch March 4, 2016. It makes sense for Fox to shift Peculiar Children, since Disney opens Burton’s sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, on May 27, 2016.
Scorpio Races Gets a Director
Maggie had quite the tease for us on Tuesday via her Twitter account:
https://twitter.com/mstiefvater/status/646359817699913730?refsrc=email&s=11
All the “delight” became evident three days later, with the release of this news:
Scorpio Races has found its director.
Matt Sobel, who made his feature debut with this year’s Sundance drama Take Me to the River, has been tapped to helm the Focus Features’ adaptation of the Maggie Stiefvater book.
The story, which has shades of The Hunger Games, is set on the fictional island of Thisby where, every November, a deadly race is held on mystical and dangerous water horses.
English screenwriter and playwright Jack Thorne wrote the screenplay based on the 2011 book, which was published by Scholastic.
David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith’s KatzSmith Productions is producing, while Jay Ireland will executive produce.
I know a few people (MEG) who will be ecstatic over this news.
Harry Potter Fans Are Really The Best Fans (and no I’m not biased. very much)
An amazing thing is happening in the Harry Potter Fandom these days, and it’s all thanks to Mugglenet and their PotterItForward hashtag.
Potter fan site MuggleNet have started a new movement using the hashtag #PotterItForward with readers sneaking notes into library and donated books.
Fans are encouraged to explain what JK Rowling’s novels meant to them in these secret notes.
Whether it’s their favourite quote, what messages they took from Rowling’s stories or how the books made them feel like they belonged, each note is heartfelt and sincere.
The notes are popping up all over Twitter, many of them endearing enough to bring a tear to your eye, or remind you of how you felt the first time you read Harry Potter.

What a cool idea!!
Jackie Collins Dies
No one of a certain age can hear the name Jackie Collins without picture the beautiful and vivacious woman who turned women’s fiction upside down with her powerful narratives.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today,” the Collins family tells PEOPLE in a statement.
“She lived a wonderfully full life and was adored by her family, friends and the millions of readers who she has been entertaining for over 4 decades. She was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force. She will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words.”
Amy Schumer Sells Book for Millions
Just the title of this one has me in spasms. Guys, Schumer is writing a book called The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo. hahahaha
The auction for the recent Emmy winner and Entertainment Weekly cover star’s book concluded last Friday, with the winning bid falling between $8-10 million, a source confirms to EW. (That’s even more than we estimated last June.) Schumer’s agent, David Kuhn, had been circulating the proposal widely across Manhattan publishing houses. Editors had to offer a bid on the book to even get a meeting with Schumer.
Man, I really need to get famous somehow so I can sell a book for that much. Is there a Real Wives Of Norcal I can join or something?
New Black Panther Series To Be Written By Ta-Nehisi Coates
It’s an unlikely pairing, the new Black Panther comic series, and Ta-Nehisi Coates, celebrated non-fiction writer and correspondent for The Alantic. But the backstory for this news release is even more interesting.
Writing for that comics publisher is a childhood dream that, despite the seeming incongruity, came about thanks to his day job. “The Atlantic is a pretty diverse place in terms of interest, but there are no comics nerds,” besides himself, Mr. Coates said in an interview.
His passions intersected in May, during the magazine’s New York Ideas seminar, when he interviewed Sana Amanat, a Marvel editor, about diversity and inclusion in comic books. Ms. Amanat led the creation of the new Ms. Marvel, a teenage Muslim girl living in Jersey City, based on some of her own childhood experiences.
“It was a fruitful discussion,” he recalled.
Yeah, I’ll say, if you got a freaking comic book contract out of it!
At first glance, it may seem odd for Mr. Coates to write a mainstream superhero comic. He has been lauded for his book “Between the World and Me,” a passionate letter to his son on being black in America. But he does not see anything odd about it. “I don’t experience the stuff I write about as weighty,” he said. “I feel a strong need to express something. The writing usually lifts the weight. I expect to be doing the same thing for Marvel.”
Looking forward to this fresh take on the series.

Oh boy..
#potteritforward is genius. I think I’m going to do it with all the editions at the store tomorrow. It isn’t limited to independent bookstores doing it, is it? LOL
I love Amy Schumer. I LOVE the title even more…. but again, she’s a smart cookie to have an agent who made it next near to impossible to even bid on the book. The elusive and mysterious often yield the most results (in this case, the amount of money she gets for the book, etc). And I know a few people that title could apply to .
I love Coates doing a new spin on “The Black Panther”. Also looking forward to that.
Jackie Collins was the Queen when I was growing up. I was saddened greatly at her passing. RIP, Queen.
Peregrine getting moved up is great. Christmas Day? Even better!!!
Kate Copeseeley
You should totally #potteritforward, and also, post your pics on Twitter for us to see!!
And Amy Schumer is really very saavy. I think you’re right, she must also have a saavy agent. 🙂

Stunning post Kate. <3 YAY for many awesome news 😀 Ugh, The Scorpio Races. <3 One of my favorite books of all time. SO GOOD. I CANNOT wait for this movie 😀 It's going to be the best. Ahhh! I have not read Forest Of Hands And Teeth, but curious. Do love the author. Movie sounds like it will be awesome already 😀 Thank you for sharing. <3
Kate Copeseeley
I’m so glad you’re excited about Scorpio Races, Carina! It’s always fabulous when a much loved book becomes a movie. Here’s hoping that it lives up to your expectations.
Forest of Hands And Teeth was lyrically beautiful, but ultimately devastating. I think that is Ryan’s MO. beware: if you don’t like love triangles, there is like a love quandrangle (or something) in that one!
Carina Olsen
Yay. <3 But uuuugh. I always thought there was a triangle thingy in those books :\ So sad that there is. Hmph. I won't be reading them, lol 🙂 But I do like her other books 😀
Natalie Monroe
#PotterItForward sounds amazing. I wish I could take part, but the one time I left sticky notes in books, it didn’t end very well. I managed to tape “Best book ever! Buy immediately” on Deathly Hallows, but the bookstore owner caught me as I was labeling Fifty Shades “Wash hands after touching”.
Ashley
So if I’m reading what you posted about Miss Peregrine’s correctly (clicked the link to the source to check too) how is the moving being moved from March 4, 2016 to Christmas 2016 (according to the linked article) making it an earlier release date? That would make it being released much later actually.
Ashley
movie* not moving
Kate Copeseeley
You’re absolutely right! I misread the original article. I thought it said it was moving from 2017 to late 2016. My bad! Thanks for pointing out my error. 🙂 It has now been corrected.
Jodie @ Words Read & Written
Ooooo excited for The Scorpio Races 🙂
Kate Copeseeley
Yes, I guess I better get to reading that one, huh? 😀

#PotterItForward is awesome. I don’t have a super cool story to tell, myself, having started the series as a college student, but I admire everyone who participates.
Sarah
Wasn’t Ann’s ex-husbadn named Tom? I know Ben Affleck just played the husband in Gone Girl, but I think who ever they cast for Tom needs to be smarmy. And that’s how Ben Affleck makes me feel, he’s just yuck! Can’t wait for the movie!
Guess I better hurry up and read Scorpio Races then!
Kate Copeseeley
No, it was Rachel’s ex who was named Tom. And you’re right, he SHOULD be played by someone smarmy. Ann is the one who is missing and it’s her current husband who I can’t remember the name of. haha

I had no idea the sea of movie adaptations had swelled so! Time to knuckle down and read all of those (although not TFoHaT…because it scared me out of sleep for 2 days straight).
