I recently read The Falconer by Elizabeth May and resisted the urge to lobby my local parliament to change laws so that I could legally wed a book. Anywho, May contacted me to do the cover reveal, and the conversation went like this:
Elizabeth May: Hey, Kat, reveal my cover or I’ll shank you.
Kat Kennedy: Sorry. I’m busy throwing cats at people.
Elizabeth May:…I’ll sick the fae on you and have them play hackey sack with your kidneys.
Kat Kennedy: Ugh, just give me a sec. Some kids came onto my lawn! I need to pelt them with airborn felines.
Elizabeth May: I’ll give you five minutes alone time with Kiaran.
Kat Kennedy: 10 minutes…
Elizabeth May: 7 minutes and you get the post up today.
So, here we go. My part of the bargain done!
Cover Reveal for The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Published by Chronicle Books May 6th 2014
Heiress. Debutant. Murderer. A new generation of heroines has arrived.
Edinburgh, Scotland, 1844
Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined for a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery killed her mother.
Now it’s the 1844 winter season and Aileana slaughters faeries in secret, in between the endless round of parties, tea and balls. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, she sheds her aristocratic facade every night to go hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.
But the balance between high society and her private war is a delicate one, and as the fae infiltrate the ballroom and Aileana’s father returns home, she has decisions to make. How much is she willing to lose – and just how far will Aileana go for revenge?

I’m actually torn over this cover. I like the UK cover as well. There is something about a redhead heroine that just gets my blood flowing and laughing maniacally. Definitely looking forward to reading this book!
Hannah
LOVE the cover and the book sounds amazing!
Maura
I’m torn! I like this one, but I love the UK cover.
Vannah Batista
I like this cover. but I have to admit that I like the UK Cover better. But their both awesome! Thanks for the amazing giveaway! 🙂
Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy
I adore this cover! It’s very different from the UK cover, but I think it works well. Awesome giveaway, I’ve been waiting to read this book since forever!
Kate Copeseeley
Wow, I freaking love that cover. I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this book to come out. 🙂
And Kat, felines? There must be something easier you could pelt people with. Overly ripe persimmons? Box turtles? Cats are so squirmy and scratchy.
Rena B
I’m really loving the cover!! This is definitely something I want to read!
Angie F.
I quite like it! More than the UK one! 😀
Nikki
I am SO looking forward to this book! What a great US cover. May 4th needs to get here sooner!!
Nikki
And by May 4th I obviously meant May 6th… Though the faster the 4th gets here, the faster the 6th will get here too… 😉
Christianna
I’ve been waiting for this one to get released over here! The cover is so pretty! I like it! Thanks for the giveaway!

Lee
Love the cover. Love the hair!
Amie
Oh this one is pretty. I think I like it more than the UK version. Her hair color and the sword —> look so cool.
Alisa
I don’t like this cover as much as the UK one. I mean, I love her hair and clothes, but whenever I look at it, I see the knife/dagger extremely close to her throat and think of Murphy’s Law. Besides, in the UK cover, there are explosions behind her, and who doesn’t love a book with explosions?
Kara @ Great Imaginations
I love the cover. Obviously I have a thing for gingers. DUH!
de Pizan
As a redhead, I approve of this cover. I’m very excited to actually read the book. Thanks for the giveaway!
Kelly L.
This is a totally weird thing to say about the cover, but I love the lipstick color the cover model is wearing! It totally matches her outfit. ;D
sarah c.
I dont really like this cover as much as i liked the UK cover.. The UK stands out more -to me.. thanks for the giveaway!!!
Alice
The cover looks so bad-ass! It looks like a mixture of the Victorian era and Kill Bill, but that could just be my strange imagination. Thank you so much for the giveaway!
Nicole Hewitt
Very striking and I really love the tagline – that caught my attention!
Rose Wallin
I LOVE this cover!! I would want to read this book just because of the cover, but with the synopsis and your thoughts on it, this is for sure going on my must read shelf!! 😀
Maria Selke (@mselke01)
This cover is awesome! I love the flowing red hair and the DAGGER!
Miranda
I actually love this cover more than the original one I saw. Who doesn’t like an awesome lady wielding deadly weaponry?
Ashley
I love both covers
Stacey
I think I like this one a little bit better than the UK version but both are beautiful. I love the tagline too!
Carrie
Corsets and Daggers. What more could you want? 🙂 I like it!
Ashley D.
I think the cover looks great!!
Mona
I love both covers really – but this one slightly more cause I really wish I had that kind of red hair. So excited!
Gillian
GORGE! Epic hair, epic necklace, epic dagger, epicccc. So much better than the UK cover!

Shae/Shelver @ Shae Has Left The Room
I like it! The colors are bright and crisp, I love that she’s a redhead, the knife is super-intriguing, and I even like the choker around her neck. Very kick-butt.
Danielle
GAAAAAHHH IT’S SO AMAZING!!! I love it!! I’m beyond excited to read this novel and that is a fantastic cover. WOO!
Gamat Gold
Great contest. Good luck everyone..
Gabrielle
Oh, God! I am so excited to read this! I feel as though I’ve been patient in my wait for the US release . . . . until now, that is. There is a cover! AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL. Man alive. I need to read about this freaking fae-slayer!
Sophia
Being a redhead myself I’m very excited when I see one on a cover! I can’t wait to read this book and see what Ms. May has been creating all this time!
Michelle Rubio
Ahh gorgeous! Can’t wait to read!
Noelle Hussein
It’s beautiful. Like the UK cover’s font better though.
Kristen@My Friends Are Fiction
I really love the cover–love the vibrant colors. I do prefer the UK cover but might just be because I’ve seen it a lot more. I would love a copy of both 🙂
atiffyfit
I can’t decide which cover I like best, US or UK, but regardless…sounds like my kind of book! 🙂
Angie
I think the cover is beautiful, just the hair is a little strange.
Rachelle
Everything’s gorgeous except the choker necklace thing. I have a weird issue with things being tightly wrapped around my neck. I know… I’m weird.
Leeanna @ Leeanna.me
The cover is pretty, but I have to admit, I prefer the UK one. It’s just more eye-catching, to me.
Kamla L.
The cover is stunning but so is the UK cover. I’m having a difficult time deciding which I like better.
Ann
It kind of reminds me of Disney’s Brave.
