Buzz Worthy News
Welcome back to Buzz Worthy News where the stories are awesome and not at all well-written. Need your YA industry news? Never fear, Kat is here to give it all to you. Just, ya know, not in any kinda sophisticated sense or nothing. Basically, Simon & Schuster Pulse imprint is publishing something awesome. Divergent’s come out with a clip that might interest you, HA, who are we kidding? And Sesame Street makes something completely awesome! All this and more is happening in this week’s Buzz Worthy News.
Buzz Worthy News is Cuddlebuggery’s weekly news post bringing you all the best information about the book and blogging world, particularly for the venn diagram of people who overlap between the two. For new releases and cover reveals of all the best Young Adult fiction, check out our Sunday post: Hot New Titles.
Dumb Bloggers Can’t Settle on Blog Feature
Intrepid bloggers of Cuddlebuggery have once again changed the format, time, place and look of Buzz. After several weeks of absence, they brought back the popular feature with no warning, altering the day it had appeared on for more than a year. This caused shock and confusion amongst the masses. “I just don’t understand,” said one concerned blog reader. “Why can’t they just get their shit together?” Another blog reader mused sadly, “I never liked their stupid faces any way.”
After a great deal of turmoil, the bloggers have settled on this format. For now, at least, with Kat Kennedy quoted as saying, “This is definitely going to be the last time we change Buzz. Or not. I don’t know. We really can’t work this the fuck out. It’s not our fault, okay? Buzz is a lot of work. Hey get that camera outta my face okay? I’m trying to use the stall here!”
Simon & Schuster Doing what Every Publisher Should Do
Simon & Schuster’s pulse imprint is taking a bold step out into a brave new world of publishing memoirs of transgender kids. Otherwise known as kids. This is an amazing step for human beings all over the world. An amazing step that should be taken by every publisher since the beginning of publishing, but never too late, aye?
The teens are Arin Andrews and Katie Rain Hill who “supported each other through their transitions and ultimately fell in love.” OH MY GOD THAT IS THE SWEETEST THING EVER I WANT TO HUG EVERYONE INVOLVED. Watch the video of these two beautiful souls. I think I actually cried when Katie comes down the stairs in Arin’s old dress.
This is always a good reminder to never assume your kid’s sexuality or gender but to accept who they feel they are.
Another Divergent Clip – as if We aren’t Excited Enough
Thanks, SUMMIT. It’s not like we’re not all excited enough for this movie. Just go ahead and make us more excited! But OOOOOoooooh Kate Winslet just kills it. And Tobias as Four? And Shailene is just kicking it too. I’m officially annoyed. Get me this movie now.
Sesame Street Wins All The Awards with Les Miserables Parody
In possibly the best adaptation of Les Miserables I’ve ever seen. Like, I snored through the other adaptation, but this one had me laughing. The Cookie Monster stars as the main character, Jean Bon-Bon on his adventure through the world where people are sad, jealous etc and can only be fixed by cookies.
Seriously. Watch this shit.
George R R Martin will Write What George R. R. Martin Wants to Write
The fans keep begging him to bust out The Winds of Winter, but that seems to be an exercise in futility. GRRM does what GRRM wants to do. No matter how crazy this makes everyone. His latest novella, an anthology, Rogue.
“The Princess and the Queen,” Archmaester Gyldayn’s somewhat abbreviated account of the Dance of the Dragons, got a great response from all the folks who read it in DANGEROUS WOMEN, so we’ve dipped back into the archmaester’s somewhat disorganized piles of scrolls and crumbling manuscripts, and brought forth another piece of his unpublished history. “The Rogue Prince, or, the King’s Brother,” will tell the story of the years leading up to the calamitous events of “The Princess and the Queen” during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen, with particular attention to the role played by the king’s brother, Prince Daemon, a rogue if there ever was one. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as you did “The Princess and the Queen.”
Keith Richards Knows His Demographic… children?
Keith Richards is writing a children’s book about his guitar for all those under fives who have been a massive fans of his since the beginning of his career. After all,, everyone knows that writing kids books is so damn easy, right? Like just whack a bunch on pictures on some bad grammar and simplistic stylistic choices.
To give him credit, it’s probably a labour of love since he’s on tour. Again. The novel is about his early memories of his first guitar and his 28 year old daughter is collaborating on the project.
North Korean Dictators Are Children’s Authors Because The Universe Deemed it So
You know, I just don’t know about the world anymore. Why can’t all tyrannical dictators be bond villains? Why do some of them insist on doing stuff like expressing themselves in artistic ways? According to an Australian researcher, Kim Jong-il and Kims Il-sung have both apparently written children’s books.
Boys Wipe Out Bandits, first published in 1989, is “adapted from a story the Dear Leader ‘one day’ dreamed up as a child himself”, writes Richardson, in which “cultural impurities, capitalist degeneracy, and rampant individualism are defeated by the pure virtue of the collective”.
Wow. Sounds like a exciting read. Though according to Christopher Richardson, they’re ultra violent but interesting stories. The real authorship of these stories seems ambiguous though as there are ghostwriters and the publishers aren’t exactly forthcoming. Still, the story is rather illuminating. Not as interesting as the story of starving peasants and human rights violations.
Scott Westerfield Blowing this Publishing Conspiracy Wide Open
Scott Westerfield, otherwise known as an author I know through his partner’s awesome twitter account, is blowing this whole YA Publishing thing WIDE OPEN in his new novel, Afterworlds. The Uglies and Leviathan author has written a standalone fantasy novel about a teen who gets a publishing contract after finishing her NaNoWriMo novel (that’s the fantasy part. Hahahaha. A publishing contract from NaNoWriMo. LOL. Still laughing).
She heads into the world of Young Adult Publishing where THINGS HAPPEN. The story actually sounds fascinating and I can’t wait to read it!
Fangs 4 the Fantasy (@Fangs4Fantasy)
I…. I just don’t understand! Why can’t they get their shit together? (ah well, it’s a good thing i love their stupid faces :P)
Simon and Schuster brings some good news – it’s always gratifying to read some occasionally
You’d think people would know better than to bother George R R Martin. He’ll just create a character you love and then kill them horribly. In fact, since Tyion is still alive, I wish to beg people, beg on bended knee, for them to leave him alone because he WILL DO IT!
I reckon Keith Richard’s book actually contains a secret code on how to make the demonic pacts necessary for immortality and invulnerability – because we know he knows those secrets

I love how you email me back, without actually emailing me. Message received. LOL
George may be the best fantasy author in the world, but MAN can he procrastinate. Like whoa. *shakes fist* When will the series be finished, George? WHEN??
You know, Stephanie Perkins DID get a publishing contract with her Nano submission. It can be done. But you have to have pixie dust and unicorn poop and a couple other magical ingredients. It’s actually very complicated.
Love your stupid faces, guys! 🙂
Missie
I cannot wait for Divergent! Eek!

Love the videos! I’m hesitant about Divergent, but I will see it with morbid curiosity.
Mel@thedailyprophecy
Les Mousserables was hilarious, haha. I recently saw the movie, so it was funny to see what they did with the story. Thanks for sharing!
Eileen @ Singing and Reading in the Rain
Aww that transgender couple video is so cute! It’s really annoying how the media never covers stories about couples like these because they can be just as cute as a cis couple if not even more so, and I feel like because they’re a minority people think they’re “gross” or “weird” for changing their biological gender, even though it’s TOTALLY normal.
Divergent! I am SO excited for that, and I’m going to see the midnight premier next week. It’s going to be so fun because a LOT of people have been loving this movie and I keep seeing ads everywhere for it 🙂 I really hope it doesn’t turn into another book-to-movie flop that totally sucks.
HAHHAHAHA Les Mousserables! Omg I live for movie adaptations and trailers like this. This video just made my day.

I’m not a big fan of Scott Westerfield (Uglies was just meh for me), but a book about the publishing process is definitely something I can get into!
Shannelle C.
KATTTT Look at that Scott Westerfield book! Doesn’t it sound perfect for all those aspiring writers out there? THIS IS OUR SNEAK PEEK IN THE INDUSTRY. (Because we’re definitely getting published, of course)
And it’s actually possible to get a deal from NaNo. I know Kat Zhang did it.
Anyhoo, I’m just going to leave now and set up my Camp NaNo profile. And then set myself up to write.
AH@badassbookreviews
Thanks for that Muppet clip. It made my morning!
Natalie Crown
I would know nothing at all without Buzz. I love you, Buzz.
Although I DID know about the Sesame Street Parody. HA. Go me.
You know, I didn’t enjoy Divergent at all *ducks* BUT I do think that it might work better for me as a film, and the cast is great. Even though I didn’t like the book I still want the film to do well because I’m fed up at people judging YA by bad film adaptations.
And that Scott Westerfield book sounds like the truest fantasy to ever exist but also very interesting.
Elisa (Just a Hunch Book Blog)
Love Scott Westerfeld– thanks for the info on his upcoming book! I wonder if he got the idea from participating in NaNoWriMo himself– I signed up this past year (and had, like, ONE solid day of meeting my word count goal) and the author encouragements were my favorite part.
Lyn Kaye
Westerfield’s new book sounds quite possibly awesome.
