Sorry for the unscheduled break, friends. I was gone for my sister’s wedding and then I got really sick. (Still on the mend, actually) Let’s get on with the news!

Fifty Shades Darker Trailer

So… this trailer got more views on its first day of release than The Force Awakens on its first day? What is wrong with this world? Where is the sweet meteor of death when you need it?

Here is the trailer, so you can judge for yourself.

Fallen Trailer

In other quality movie news, Lauren Kate’s Fallen adaption is out. I’ll let you go and check it out.

I couldn’t for the life of me remember what this book series is about, so I thought in case you had the same problem, I’d post the synopsis here for you:

A young girl finds herself in a reform school after therapy since she was blamed for the death of a young boy. At the school she finds herself drawn to a fellow student, unaware that he is an angel, and has loved her for thousands of years.

Thousands of years, huh? Cue Liz Lemon eye roll:

I will say this though, that angel dude is HAWT.  I might watch it just for that reason. 😀

Anne of Green Gables Movie

Not to be outdone by Netflix, PBS has purchased the rights to another version of Anne of Green Gables, to be released as a made for tv movie.

The movie was first aired on Canadian television network YTV in February, and PBS acquired US broadcasting rights in June. According to Real Simple, the movie is based on the the first book in the series, which follows the story of an adventurous young orphan, Anne, after arriving at the farm of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island. YTV has also green lighted two additional film installments based on the series, Good Stars and Fire & Dew, which will air in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

It doesn’t seem like they are following the story all that closely, however.

Here is the trailer:

Patronus Quiz

Have you tried the new patronus quiz on Pottermore?

J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website, a destination for all things Harry Potter, has released a new tool that lets fans identity their Patronus type.

In the Harry Potter universe, Patronus is a personal guard for wizards that comes in an animal form. The site asks visitors to make a series of choices in order to determine which animal is their protector. Once the decision has been determined, the guardian appears on the screen in a mysterious forrest.

“We are so delighted to be bringing J.K. Rowling’s most famous spell magically to life on Pottermore,” stated Susan L. Jurevics, CEO of Pottermore. “It’s been fantastic working with J.K. Rowling and our creative and development teams to realise her vision, using the latest technology to create this little piece of magic for our site.”

JK has taken the test and revealed on twitter what her results were.

Mine was a deerhound, which at first I was ambivalent about, because it doesn’t match my personality very well, but then I thought… you know, if I wanted someone to protect me, a big dog would be perfect. Share yours and whether you loved it or hated it!

Throne of Glass TV Series

Queen of Shadows USFans of the super popular series (AND fans of The 100, yes, I can work that show into anything) will be thrilled to hear that Maas has signed over rights to Hulu to produce a streaming series.

The pilot will be written by Kira Snyder, best known for writing The CW’s The 100. Anna Foerster (who helmed episodes of Starz’ Outlander and this year’s Underworld: Blood Wars) will direct the pilot for Hulu.

In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, Celaena, an assassin, is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

It seems like Hulu is putting some good money toward this one. I think I would have held out for a Freeform or Netflix adaption, because it would have a wider audience (maybe, not sure how many people are huluing). But congrats to Maas, all the same.

The Nix Adaption

thenixThis book has a lot of buzz, so the fact that it’s already slated as a TV show doesn’t surprise me. What does surprise me is that they got two huge names associated with the project right away.

Meryl Streep is heading to the small screen.

The three-time Oscar winner, who hasn’t been on a television show since 2012’s Web Therapy, is nearing a deal to star in a TV series based on The Nix, a 2016 novel by Nathan Hill. J.J. Abrams and Hill will executive produce the project, which is set up at Warner Bros. TV.

Hill’s critically acclaimed debut novel follows a man named Samuel Andresen-Anderson, whose mother, Faye, reappears decades after she abandoned the family. She becomes the center of controversy for allegedly committing an absurd crime, and Samuel must dig back into her secretive past to try to save her. The novel is described as a sprawling satire that spans from the suburban Midwest to New York City to the 1968 riots that rocked Chicago and beyond.

I cannot believe they got Meryl Streep for this. No joke, it made me more excited!

EL James’ New Book

tumblr_na3kh9ykxy1s9qyxio2_500

We were all expecting (dreading) this news, but EL James has release a tease of two pages from her newest book. It has no title yet, but we do know it’s the same story as the Fifty Shades from Christian Grey’s perspective. Here is what EL had to say about it:

Good morning, all
I know you’re anxiously awaiting the trailer, and that’s happening… soon.
In the meantime, in honour of Ana’s birthday, there’s this:

New Character In Winnie The Pooh Book

winnie-the-pooh-and-penguin-galleycatNot satisfied on letting the original AA Milne books stand under their own zany charm, Penguin Young Readers will be giving us another offering written by some other people (four of them) called The Best Bear in All the World. And now they’re adding a new character too!

One author, Brian Sibley, will introduce a new character named Penguin in his story, “Winter.” He drew inspiration to create Penguin from an old photo that showcases A.A. Milne, the original author behind the Winnie-the-Pooh series, and Christopher Robin Milne, his son, playing with the original Winnie-the-Pooh toy and a penguin plushie (see below).

Sibley said:

“For someone who has loved Winnie-the-Pooh & Co from his earliest childhood, the idea of visiting the ‘100 Aker Wood’ in search of a new story was wildly exciting. However, having studied and written about the works of A. A. Milne, it was also daunting. But, for me, the challenge was more than just attempting to play A. A. Milne in his own literary game; I also wanted to find a way of successfully introducing a brand new character into Pooh’s world, whilst being sympathetic to the tone and style of the original books.”

I get the idea, I do. And yes there is photographic evidence. BUT WHY CAN’T WE LET BELOVED CHILDHOOD BOOKS STAND ALL ON THEIR OWN??? This just seems money-grubbing to me, like when they “supposedly” found a new manuscript by Dr. Seuss. Except at least then, they had some material that he’d actually written to work with.

I am so with you on the Anne of Green Gables commentary. My friends and I were talking about it on Friday and basically we all decided we will probably be sadly disappointed, but we are going to watch it anyway, because it’s Anne. 😀

I’ve read Fallen by Lauren Kate (like years ago), it’s still on my bookshelf and the sequel waits to be read. I remember having liked this book even though, if my memory doesn’t fail me, there were almost every clichés of this kind of love story, (understand a teenager falling in love with a supernatural being or whatever) but watching the trailer, I thought “why did they give everything?” 😮 I mean, the mystery is not that he’s an angel? Why haven’t focus on the fact she sees things, instead of giving all the story? But I get it, showing cool angel wings can be tempting. 😂

    • Kate Copeseeley

I have never read the books myself, but the impression I got when watching the trailer was that they were focusing on the romantic aspect? He is mysterious, she has a dark past, she is remembering pieces of him from some other time? I dunno. I think that will suck a lot of people in.

      • Morgane
        Twitter:

Well, it’s a really ‘romantic’ book that focuses on the love story; so the romantic aspect is normal, I think. But, I feel like they give too easily that he’s an angel. It’s somewhat… easy to guess from there. I don’t know maybe it’s because I read the book. But I’ll watch the movie when it comes out and re-read the book. Maybe review it. 😊

    • Fangs for the Fantasy

The first book is bad. The second worse. The third even worse. Each time this surprises me, kind of like living in a zombie dystopia, then the zombies riding velociraptors, then the zombies riding velociraptors and being armed with lasers

      • Morgane
        Twitter:

I must say, I read your comment with a bored voice and a sigh at the end. 😂 It had some comic power for some reason. But, someone could enjoy zombie dystopia with velociraptors? I mean who doesn’t love dinosaurs! I’m all for the bizarre. I won’t say anything about the sequels on the other hand, I haven’t read them.

      • Kate Copeseeley

Haha, I loved your description, but if your intention was to make it sound unappealing, you failed. I would totally read a book with zombies riding velociraptors shooting laser (or whatever the equivalent is with a girl who has a thousand year old angel in love with her, haha)
On the other hand, people I respect have not enjoyed this book, which is what led me to avoid it in the first place. *shrug* I might try the movie, however.

  2. Denai

Hulu is an American only service, I can’t actually pay to watch throne of glass, I’ll just have to stream it elsewhere which I don’t like doing.

As always, lovely news post Kate 😀 You are awesome. <3 Thank you for sharing about it all 🙂 I have not seen the Fifty Shades Darker trailer, lol 😀 Since I haven't watched the first movie. Shrugs. I read it as a Twific years ago, and I would not do it again, haha 🙂 And uuuugh. Wasn't there already a book from his point of view of the first book? Does this mean a book from his pov of book two? Or another one of book one? Is confused. Haha. Anyway. Not for me 😀

And.. oh. The Throne of Glass news are not for me either :\ I think the author seems amazing. But I would never ever read her books. Not my kind of thing at all. And, to be honest, I do not see how anyone are liking them, hiiih 🙂

And ohh, the Harry Potter thingy. I got a Dolphin 🙂 Unsure about it, but they are cute, I guess ;p

    Anyway. You are awesome. <3

Carina, she wrote the three books under Anna’s point of view and now she is releasing three books that follow the same timeline written from Christian’s point of view.
I like your patronus! A dolphin sounds fun, and they are really smart. 🙂
      Have a great week!

The PBS version of Anne of Green Gables already aired in Canada earlier in the year, it isn’t entirely faithful to the book which is always annoying, but it was sweet and I liked the girl playing, it’s watchable, just not as brilliant as the eighties miniseries.
