Draco Malfoy Is Gonna Be On The Flash

Draco-MalfoyHave you ever seen a character who is so perfect for his part that it’s hard to picture him as anything else? I fully admit that Tom Felton is pretty much Draco to me. Luckily, my imagination doesn’t need to picture him in another role, the CW has seen to that.

The CW has announced that Tom Felton will join the cast of The Flash for season three. Felton has become well-known for playing the Slytherin bully Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise.

Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter: “Felton will play Julian Dorn, a fellow CSI at Central City Police Department who suspects there’s more to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) than just his good guy reputation. And seeing as how Barry currently moonlights as the Flash, Julian is definitely on to something big.”

The New Iron Man is an Iron Lady

ironmanI can’t say anything about content of the comics, but damn that picture looks badass!

Marvel announced Wednesday that the comic-book version of Tony Stark will be shedding the Iron Man suit and  Riri Williams, a 15-year-old black girl, will be stepping into his big, metal shoes.

Following the events of the Civil War II comics, Tony Stark gave up the Iron Man suit, allowing science genius Riri Williams — who reverse-engineered her own Iron Man suit out of her MIT dorm room — to don it instead.

Williams was created by Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis, who has worked on expanding Marvel’s cast of minority characters with Miles Morales, Jessica Jones and Maria Hill, as part of the relaunch of Invincible Iron Man, a flagship series in the more diverse Marvel NOW! era. Riri’s character design was drawn by book artist Stefano Caselli.

Riri made her first appearance in Invincible Iron Man #7 by Mike Deodato.

In an interview with Time, Bendis said that Riri’s ascension to Iron Man successor resulted from her taking charge of her life through her scientific skills after her life was tragically marred by random street violence.

“I thought that was the most modern version of a superhero or superheroine story I had ever heard,” Bendis said. “…It just seemed that sort of violence inspiring a young hero to rise up and act, and using her science acumen, her natural-born abilities that are still raw but so ahead of where even Tony Stark was at that age, was very exciting to me.”

The Civil War II comics, which haven’t wrapped up yet, will show the fate of Tony Stark, and why he decides to give up his Iron Man mantle.

9 Year Old Media Powerhouse

Hilde-Lysiak-GalleyCatWhen I was nine, I was reading books and running around outside with my friends. Hilde Lysiak is becoming a force in media. I mean, honestly, I’m having serious qualms about my own life right now, because compared to a nine year old, I’m seriously slacking.

The young journalist started her own newspaper at the age of 7, signed a deal for her own book series at 9, and now she may inspire her own TV show or movie. EW has confirmed that the film and TV rights to Lysiak’s story are currently being shopped among interested parties.

The news comes a week after Lysiak announced that she had signed with Scholastic to co-author a series of four books inspired by her life and career as a journalist. The Hilde Cracks the Case series will follow Lysiak and her older sister Izzy as they investigate fictionalized cases inspired by actual stories that Lysiak has reported. Lysiak’s father, journalist and author Matthew Lysiak, will co-write the series.

Lysiak has run her self-published crime newspaper The Orange Street News since 2014, and made headlines earlier this year for breaking the news of a murder before her local paper. The first book in her Hilde Cracks the Case series is due out in fall of 2017.

Clifford Movie

cliffordMy youngest absolutely adores the Clifford books and I can tell you right now he’s going to be over the moon excited about a Clifford CG movie. (Assuming it gets made this time!)

Paramount Pictures is developing a movie adaptation of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” — a live-action/CG hybrid. Paramount has tapped Justin Malen to write the screenplay about of the 25-foot-tall dog. Scholastic Media’s Deborah Forte will produce the film, based on Scholastic’s book series by Norman Bridwell.

The first book was centered on a young girl receiving a red puppy for her birthday that grows to be 25 feet tall. It was published by Scholastic in 1963, leading to more than 60 titles and 127 million books in print. Clifford is Scholastic’s official mascot.

“Clifford the Big Red Dog” had been in development at Universal for several years with the studio announcing two years ago that it would be released in 2016. Paramount picked up the rights after the option lapsed.

I’m a little nervous about the dude who’s writing the screenplay, though. These are all very adult credits you’ve got there, Justin.

Malen’s credits include Alcon’s comedy “Bastards,” which stars Owen Wilson and Ed Helms,” along with rewriting Paramount’s “Baywatch” and DreamWorks’ “Office Christmas Party.”

Lindsay Lohan Is Writing A Book

Actress_Lindsay_LohanLindsay Lohan has been the butt of so many jokes that it would in poor taste to crack another one, but damn I’m tempted. I just am not sure what the queen of the crotch shot feels she is going to impart about the world of style and fashion. This girl?

lindsay-lohan-passed-out-lg

Lindsay Lohan’s next project is an “educational” book on style and fashion, after she turned down publishers’ bids for a tell-all.

A source told Page Six, “Lindsay has had numerous offers to do a tell-all book about her time in rehab, her brushes with the law, her crazy family, or to lift the lid on the less glamorous side of a Hollywood starlet. But she refused those offers, and she’s working on something related to style and fashion and her travels, an educational book.”

An unusually low-key Lohan has been spending the summer traveling in Europe, and is now in Italy after spending a few weeks in Mykonos with wealthy friends, including film producer Mohammed Al Turki.

She said in June she wants to settle in London: “I’m in a really good place. I’m blessed to have been able to do a play in London and start a different way of life. New York is very fast-paced, and it’s not like that over here for me. You grow up and change, and I’m really happy about that, as overall I feel a lot better. Moving here was a new start for me and my outlook on life is different now.”

Anyway, she sounds like she’s trying really hard to make a good life for herself, so I hope this helps get her down the road to healthiness.

Classics Coloring Book Series

Pride-Prejudice-Coloring-GalleyCatVery excited about this one (assuming it’s as pretty as the others I’ve seen)! I love this whole literature themed coloring books trend.

The team at Doubleday Books for Young Readers plans to publish five all-ages coloring books for the Coloring Classic series.

The literary classics that served as the inspiration for these titles include Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Bram Stoker’s Dracula,Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, and Charles Dickens’A Chrismas Carol. The group of illustrators who worked on these books include Chellie Carroll, Renia Metallinou, Bethan Janine, Elisabetta Stoinich, Kate Ware, and Vladimir Aleksic.

This series will be kicked off by the publication of Pride and Prejudice and Romeo and Juliet on July 5. Dracula will come out on August 30. Wuthering Heights will be released on September 27. A Christmas Carol will follow on October 18.

Crossroad Reviews Book Under Fire for ARC Scandal

It was a tumultuous week in the book blogging world. It all started when some people started bringing attention to a blogger that has been causing raised brows for awhile now. Some of the tweets and opinions are below. We humbly submit it for your own inspection.

Parajunkee wrote this interesting tale of her own struggles with book bloggers here.

The blogger wrote the below post in response to all the anger.

The multi copies Jessica has in her had weren’t just for her. I know exactly when this was. The rest of her group she was with were in line for something else. So since it’s hard for her to stand still for a long period of time. She would walk around picking up stuff for the rest of us. While we stayed in line. She always let the publishers know that how many people were in her group. So again before you jump to conclusions maybe you should ask first.

Also that spliced edit of two unrelated posts. Has already need explained.

Hi Rachael! I was so confused by your comment for a moment there, because I was like “Who is Jessica?” Then I realized one of my fellow bloggers added a story on at the end. haha
Sorry. I can’t address how that person wrote the story (or who even wrote it. usually they post their name with added stories). But I would like to thank you for your comments here and below and let you know that we do read all the comments our readers leave here on the site.
      Thanks again for stopping by!

      Hi Rachel,

Thank you for commenting. If you notice, the piece that was written about the controversy contained no commentary about Jessica, nor did we jump to any conclusions. The only thing presented were the reactions from the community and a link to Jessica’s post defending her actions. Our own personal opinions about the issue were entirely left out.

I, myself, have been to many bookish conventions including this year’s BEA. I do find it quite surprising that publishers were openly allowing anyone to take multiple copies for friends when that is something they expressly don’t allow. In fact, this was even the case at Book Blogger Con this year. I’m not saying Jessica is lying, but I do have trouble believing they were super willing to offer so many extras. THAT is my personal opinion, and I can assure you, I did not arrive at it by jumping to conclusions.

I completely agree with you about that Lohan book. I would much rather she stick with something that interests herself and probably a lot of other people rather than a hate-filled (or sadness filled, who knows?) tell-all that probably won’t do much to make her feel good about her life.
