The Hamilton Book Tag

One day I will go back to reviewing books but today is not that day. I was tagged by Gillian and Angie to do the Hamilton book tag (I’m sorry Angie, you tagged me ages ago and I am the actual worst at doing things in a timely fashion), created by Maureen. Obviously Hamilton is the MOST AMAZING so I am very excited to participate.

The Room Where It Happens | Book world you would put yourself in

I want to be in the room where it happens, the room where it happens

Thisby from The Scorpio Races sounds absolutely beautiful and half magic while being totally real. The descriptions remind me a lot of the cliffside towns in Ireland and that is hands down my absolute most favorite place I’ve ever traveled. Plus, you know, murderous sea horses, which when you point that out it’s kind of hilarious that Thisby still seems like one of the least likely to be struck by catastrophic disaster worlds you could live in.

The Schuyler Sisters | Underrated Female Character

I feel like there are people out there who read Froi of the Exiles and Quintana of Charyn and somehow don’t recognize that Quintana is precious and amazing? All I can say is never let me find out who you are because I will come to your home with powerpoint slides and we will go over them until I am satisfied you understand the error of your ways. This might seem like fun and games but that is because, believe it or not, I actually try to shield you all from the extent of my hyper-focused intensity.* It can be…unpleasant.
*My husband would like to second this statement and add a ‘you’re relentless’

My Shot | A character that goes after what they want and doesn’t let anything stop them

Hey yo, I’m just like my country I’m young, scrappy and hungry and I’m not throwing away my shot!

How can I answer this with any other character than Georgia Mason? Not only does that quote perfectly fit her, a number of the themes/lyrics in the show parallel her story so well I’d say it takes my breath away but mostly it makes me cry so hard I almost throw up. This is my fairly standard reaction to the Newsflesh trilogy though, so, idk.

Stay Alive | A character you wish was still alive

Um, a lot of them. I can’t think of that many non-spoilery ones and Gillian already said Fred Weasley so I’m going with Sirius Black because SERIOUSLY JK ROWLING? YOU HAD TO GO THERE? NOT ONLY HASN’T HARRY SUFFERED ENOUGH BUT WHAT ABOUT SIRIUS? THE MAN SPENT MOST OF HIS ADULT LIFE IN A LITERALLY SOUL SUCKING PRISON HELL FOR A CRIME HE DIDN’T COMMIT AND HAVING AN ENTIRE SOCIETY BELIEVE HIM CAPABLE OF MURDERING HIS BEST FRIEND. LIKE ??????????????????

Non-stop | A series you marathoned

Why do you write like you’re running out of time? Write day and night like you’re running out of time?

I marathon a lot of stuff but I think I’m going to go with the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. Not so much because I think this is series is the best (sort of the opposite though I did….I don’t know if enjoy is the right word for what I went through while reading it), but because I don’t think I’ve ever had a more cracked out binge experience in my life (aside from The Lost Weekend aka the weekend I discovered The 100). It spawned the infamous (or as infamous as something can be when only two people have seen it) 5 Meg Barrons Debate (more or less exactly what it sounds like except it was all in my head, took place at 3 in the morning and for some unfathomable reason I transcribed it) and all I can say is I’m very, very glad Ellis is the only person to have witnessed this breakdown. For the record, I don’t really recommend this series. Apparently after book 5 it takes some incredibly questionable turns which is honestly impressive because it was already incredibly questionable.

Satisfied | Favorite book with multiple POVs

Six of Crows is fantastic because every POV feels distinct and brings a different aspect to the story. It’s also notable because all of the POVs are equally enjoyable and that’s pretty cool.

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story | A book/series you feel like will be remembered throughout history

But when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame?

How does any member of our generation not answer this question with Harry Potter?

Ten Duel Commandments | Favorite fight scene

Time to get some pistols and the doctor on site

Every single fight scene in The Paradox Trilogy. Devi’s a mercenary and loves a good fight more than basically everything else, so in addition to being really well-written, the scenes are told through a POV that is REALLY REALLY ENJOYING ITSELF so it adds an extra layer of energy to the scenes.

What Comes Next | A series you wish had more books

The Lumatere Chronicles. I will gladly throw money in whatever direction necessary to make these books a thing until either I die or Melina Marchetta doesn’t want to write them anymore and if any of you point out that she doesn’t seem to have any plans to write in this world again I will do something dramatic.

Eli, Josef and Nico, the ultimate Brot3. Their merry band is the best of the best part of the Legend of Eli Monpress series and that’s saying something because those books are really fucking good.

What’d I Miss | A book or series you were late to reading

I’ve been in Paris meeting lots of different ladies…I guess I basically missed the late eighties

I read Throne of Glass and the first bit of Crown of Midnight and decided the series wasn’t for me and stood by that until caving under relentless pressure to read Heir of Fire and HELLO. SO GLAD I CAME BACK TO IT.

Angie and Maureen told me awhile back (aka when I was supposed to do the tag but flaked like a giant flaking thing) that I could totally add a category sooooooo
