Date a Book YA Night Recap

Last night I went to the Hachette Date a Book YA Night and had about a million tons of fun. I got to meet some great bloggers and book people who I adore and heard about some great books.

First I met up with Pavan and Kinokuniya book shop on George street and we made our way to the DAB night together only getting slightly lost.

I got to meet Sass, The Little Book Owl and Keely while we waited outside to be let in. Once in, it was lovely! All decorated and pretty!

I didn’t get any photos because, objectively, I suck worse than a blackhole at taking photos. Infact, I didn’t get any photos of me with the lovely bloggers I got to meet. Jaz, Joy, Sunny, Fran, Elspeth, Alison, Gina, Cassie, Eugenia, Jess, Manda, Shaheen and so many more – I’m sorry if I forgot anyone!

Then it was time to get down to business. Kim and Ashleigh did a great job MCing the night.

First, they introduced us to this book called Running Like China by Sophie Hardcastle which is a memoir – something a little out of my territory, but it was about living her life with Bipolar type 1. I’ve already started reading this beautiful book and I’m loving it.

We had signings with Sophie Hardcastle before we were sat down again and threatened with beatings kindly asked to tweet through the night, which I did intermittently. But I have to admit, I’m not a very good tweeter when it comes to events.

The books discussed that I was most interested in was:

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

The 25 year redo of Thunderwith by Libby Hathorn

Anything by Ryan Graudin – particularly Wolf by Wolf

Kelley Armstrong’s new Young Adult book, I can’t remember what it was called. Sorry!

Mosquitoland by David Arnold

Court of Fives by Kate Elliot

The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (I’ve started reading this book but haven’t finished it yet!)

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Then of course, it came to the big part of the evening!

Holly Black got up to talk and, what can I say? She was a true entertainer. She had lost of wonderful stories, she spoke very well and was immensely entertaining.

We got little gift packs that included the following books!

books

It was all immensely exciting and I had a great time.

Thank you so much to Hachette, Kim and Ashleigh for hosting the evening!
