Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.
While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?
Want to get a taste of an upcoming title without a full review or spoilers? We’re here to do that for you! It’s not a real review, and there are definitely no spoilers – just a bunch of reasons to read or not read or pass on this title.
Reasons to read:
1. Awesome new characters:
So. Many. New. Characters. While that might be overwhelming at times, I really liked what all of them had to offer. My love might be exclusive to a particular new character but we won’t talk about this now. *evil laugh*
2. Dorian
You know the thing with Dorian? The thing we found out in Crown of Midnight? Well, that thing makes him extra awesome and unpredictable in this novel. I love how much his character has developed and how his story keeps taking unexpected turns. If you’re indifferent about Dorian, I know what you’re thinking as you read this: what about Chaol? Don’t you worry. He’s as glorious as ever.
3. Just plain fun:
At over five hundred pages, you can probably guess that a hell of a lot happens in this book. The multiple story lines work so well to keep the story moving forward without boring you to death. There’s an excellent balance of all the things (action, romance, gruesomeness, etc) to make this massive book incredibly fun to read and extremely addicting.
4. A little something for everyone:
One word: Fairies! But what if you don’t like fairies? How about heart-pounding action? No? How about epic awesomeness? Yes? Well, this book is all of that plus more. And if you’re looking for a little romance, the relationships in this book are bananaballs (in the best sense of the word)!
Reasons to pass:
Why would you skip this? Fae! Action! Adventure! New characters! Shenanigans! I guess the only people who should skip it are the ones who haven’t started this series. To those I say: what are you waiting for?

I really did like Dorian so I’m glad to see there’s more of him! His storyline may have been my favourite in Crown of Midnight.

Excellent gif 😉 I think this perfectly sums up my thoughts on HoF! Albeit in a far more coherent and clearly explained way – much less keyboard smashing. I think I’m going to need a reread of the entire series once I get a hardback copy of HoF. Can’t wait!

Haha, the original draft had a lot of keyboard smashing. And I also need the hardback in my life. Like, now.

I’m so extremely excited for this book! Despite the fact that I haven’t um… actually started the series… I know! This is so bad! I’m honestly going to read it next though. I promise! I’ve been pushing it off for too long and I NEED to catch up before Heir of Fire!
