CompulsionCoverRevealHorizontalWelcome to the official cover reveal for Compulsion by Martina Boone! Kat used to be head of the art department for Cuddlebuggery. Those were the good days when her covers could rival such beauties as anyone had made before. But Meg is now in charge of the art department so she decided to give the Compulsion cover designers a run for their money with these three designs!

After you’ve finished gazing at the faux covers, check out the real one and enter to win a personalized ARC and a few other signed books!

Cover #1:

What is Compulsion? It’s that goddamn Sims game, that’s what! Let’s see what Martina has to say…

sims

Martina:

WOW. The Sims is possibly the most addictive game in history, so I can see the element of compulsion there. And I love the double meaning. (I’m a sucker for double meanings :D) In the Sims, players compel the Sims to act, and there are definitely aspects in Compulsion where the characters are forced to do things against their will or better judgment. But what really floors me about this cover is that Meg nailed something I don’t think is out anywhere on the web. One of the themes in the book centers around defining what it means to live. Living versus existing and pretending to live. So hats off to Meg. But overall? Um. I’m going to have to say this cover isn’t working for me because it’s missing any hint of the magical Southern setting. Also? No romance. I need some romance. 🙂

Cover #2

Chocolate, wine and coffee. I can hardly think of a greater compulsion!

delicious

Martina

Now you’re talking my language. Wine and chocolate. YES! But not for Compulsion, which is more about sweet tea and shrimp and grits. : ) On the other hand, I went through a lot of medicinal chocolate while I was writing and editing this book. And wine. Lots of wine while I was pulling out my hair. (You should see me. I’m practically hairless.)  So all in all, I’d probably better keep the beautiful cover that Regina Flath and the Simon Pulse team came up with for Compulsion, but if you don’t mind, I think I’ll print out this delicious cover of Meg’s, and okay, maybe the men cover too,–strictly in the interest of research, you understand. I’ll hang them on my wall for—cough–inspiration.

Cover #3

Men. Not just any men. Delicious men. Lots and lots of delicious men. Surely this cover would perfectly capture Compulsion! C’mon. I’m definitely feeling some compulsions right now.

men

Martina

Well, I did ask for romance! LOL! And you gave me Colin O’Donoghue, Tom Hiddleston, AND Benedict Cumberbatch? EXCELLENT job! And is that Idris Elba? Now I really am laughing, because I just used him as my dream cast pick for Mark, Barrie’s godfather. Of course, Idris would need to shave, put on a dress, a pair of Spanx, and some size fourteen Louboutins. He’d completely rock the look, though. But I digress. As much as I love this cover—and who wouldn’t love it?—I have to admit that I don’t love it for Compulsion. Barrie and Eight are compelled by their family gifts, but that’s what complicates the romance. It isn’t what creates the romance.

ABOUT THE BOOK

COMPULSION
By Martina Boone
Hardcover
October 28, 2014
ISBN: 18732883
Simon & Schuster, Simon Pulse

Three plantations. Two wishes. One ancient curse.

When loss is all you know, how do you find true love?

All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lived with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt’s South Carolina plantation instead—a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.

Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family’s twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn’t what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

I approve!

I wish to walk into it and lie down in that path and read a book. I’d have to kick out the happy couple first before they started stripping.

About Martina Boone

Martina Boone was born in Prague and spoke several languages before learning English. Her first teacher in the U.S. made fun of her for not pronouncing the "wh" sound right, so she set out to master "all the words”—she's still working on that! In the meantime, she’s writing contemporary fantasy set in the kinds of magical places she'd love to visit. If you like romance steeped in mystery, mayhem, Spanish moss, and a bit of magic, she hopes you'll look forward to meeting Barrie, Eight, Cassie, Pru, Seven and the other characters of Watson Island.

So about an hour and a half ago I started reading this post, with a great degree of enthusiasm and expectation. I was not let down. In fact, by the time I reached the third cover reveal, I was blown away. Like, literally, down the internet hole. I knew every man on that cover, but for one. THAT SMILE! Honestly, I mark my reading of this post by Before Daniel Sharman, and After Daniel Sharman.
But! I made my way back. And I do love the real cover. It’s magical, and just so gorram shiny!

The only exception is on consumables (such as batteries
and light bulbs). If you’re having trouble getting it to thicken, add a
