Anyone But You

Anyone But You: A Modern-Day Spin on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (Twisted Lit #3) by Kim Askew & Amy Helmes

Goodreads | Purchase
These violent delights have violent ends…
Gigi Caputo is fed up. A vicious act of vandalism has dealt another blow to her family’s proud pizza heritage, and the Montes–owners of a rival Italian restaurant–are clearly to blame. The hostility goes far beyond bragging rights for best pizza in Chicago. The Montes have been bent on destroying Cap’s for four generations. Even if it means putting herself in harm’s way, Gigi’s determined to get to the bottom of the feud. Instead, in a secret encounter with Roman Monte, the very boy whose relatives have brought her family such grief, she finds both danger and love at first sight. If the daughter and son of these two warring families fall for each other, can it be anything but a recipe for disaster? Slowly, Gigi and Roman learn that their story is fatefully linked to the summer of 1933, when two twelve-year-olds, Benny and Nick, hop the turnstile at the Chicago World’s Fair. The most stunning wonder of the fair is Stella, who innocently causes a lasting rift between the two boyhood. Wending its way through past and present day, this modern take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is bittersweet, funny, and intensely exciting. It’s classic romance–a tale of hate and the only force that can ever defeat it: love.

Suddenly, that medallion is the only thing protecting Kate from blinking out of existence.
Kate learns that the 1893 killing is part of something much more sinister, and Kate’s genetic ability to time-travel makes her the only one who can stop him. Risking everything, she travels to the Chicago World’s Fair to try to prevent the killing and the chain of events that follows.
Changing the timeline comes with a personal cost, however—if Kate succeeds, the boy she loves will have no memory of her existence. And regardless of her motives, does she have the right to manipulate the fate of the entire world?

Unaccompanied Minor

Unaccompanied Minor by Hollis Gillespie

Goodreads | Purchase
Fourteen-year-old April May Manning spent her life on airplanes with her flight attendant parents. When her father dies in a crash, April’s mom marries a pilot who turns out to be an abusive jerk, and gets Mom confined to a psychiatric hospital. So April takes off, literally, living on airplanes, using her mother’s flight benefits, relying on the flight crews who know she’s been shuttling between divorcing parents for a year. Then, there’s a hijacking, but why is April’s “dad” on board? April flees to the cargo hold with another unaccompanied minor she’s met before, and they fight to thwart the hijackers, faking a fire, making weapons from things they find in luggage. At last, locked in the cockpit with a wounded police officer, the boy, and his service dog, April tries to remember everything her parents said to do in a crisis above the clouds. But she knows it won’t be enough.

Lauren has a secret. Colby has a problem. But when they find each other, everything falls into place.
Lauren is the new girl in town with a dark secret. Colby is the football hero with a dream of something more. In alternating chapters, they come together, fall apart, and build something stronger than either of them thought possible–something to truly believe in.

Falls the Shadow

Falls the Shadow by Stefanie Gaither

SimonTEEN/September 2014
Goodreads
When Cate Benson was twelve, her sister died.
Two hours after the funeral, they picked up Violet’s replacement, and it was like nothing had ever happened. Because Cate’s parents are among those who decided to grant their children a sort of immortality—by cloning them at birth. So this new Violet has the same smile. The same laugh. That same perfect face. Thanks to advancements in mind-uploading technology, she even has all the same memories as the girl she replaced.
She also might have murdered the most popular girl in school.
Or at least, that’s what the paparazzi and crazy anti-cloning protesters want everyone to think: that clones are violent, unpredictable monsters. Cate is used to hearing all that, though. She’s used to standing up for her sister too, and she’s determined to prove her innocence now—at whatever the cost. But the deeper she digs for the truth, the further Cate’s carefully-constructed life begins to unravel, unveiling a world filled with copies and lies, where nothing and no one—not even her sister— is completely what they seem.
In a pulse pounding debut, Stefanie Gaither takes readers on a nail-biting ride through a future that looks frighteningly similar to our own time and asks: how far are you willing to go to keep your family together?

That cover for Falls that Shadow is amazing and I just love it. Whereas, the cover for The Bridge From Me To You doesn’t really make sense. It’s a fence… um… yeah. Girl, I don’t know what your idea of a bridge is, but to me… that’s a fence. LOL.

I haven’t had a chance to, but I want to read See Jane Run! It looks like a cool thriller that I’m dying to get my hands on, despite the negative reviews I’ve seen!

    Great post, Steph <33

I just love it when cover makers do that thing that they did for Falls the Shadow. Like, the detail for one aspect of the cover makes something else pop out. Like, the cover for The Sea of Tranquility.
