Hot New Titles: 8th December 2013

8 December, 2013 Hot New Titles 4 comments

HNTWelcome to Hot New Titles!  I’m back from my beach vacation and attempting to get back to a semi-normal blogging schedule. Which roughly transforms me back into the lazy blogger that I am, keeping you up-to-date on new releases, HOT covers and the ones that make you go, “Perhaps… not.” New releases for the week include Rebel Spring, Racing Savannah and Ink is Thicker Than Water.

Since I’ve missed two weeks of HNT, this week’s covers include some that you may or may not have missed with a few newish ones. My personal highlights include The Intelligence Director and The Sound of Useless Wings–two short stories for Tor.com, proving that novella covers can still kick major ass; the seven covers for Bloomsbury’s new digital line, Bloomsbury Spark; and the redesigns for Forever and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. by Judy Blume. Check them out and let us know what you think!

Hot New Titles is Cuddlebuggery’s weekly post for YA releases and cover reveals. Don’t forget you can follow us on Facebook for all the cover reveals throughout the week and more fun. Clicking the covers takes you to the book’s GoodReads page. As always, we thank Stories and Sweeties, who compiles great lists of new releases and hosts monthly New Releases Giveaways! And thank you to Christina from Reader of Fictions, for keeping us in the know for the newest cover reveals! For all the latest book world news and book blogging gossip, check out our weekly Monday feature, Buzz Worthy News.

Especially boys like Jack Goodwin—cocky, popular and completely out of her league. She knows the rules: no mixing between the staff and the Goodwin family. But Jack has no such boundaries.
With her dream of becoming a horse jockey, Savannah isn’t exactly one to follow the rules either. She’s not going to let someone tell her a girl isn’t tough enough to race. Sure, it’s dangerous. Then again, so is dating Jack…

For Kellie Brooks, family has always been a tough word to define. Combine her hippie mom and tattooist stepdad, her adopted overachieving sister, her younger half brother, and her tough-love dad, and average Kellie’s the one stuck in the middle, overlooked and impermanent. When Kellie’s sister finally meets her birth mother and her best friend starts hanging with a cooler crowd, the feeling only grows stronger.
But then she reconnects with Oliver, the sweet and sensitive college guy she had a near hookup with last year. Oliver is intense and attractive, and she’s sure he’s totally out of her league. But as she discovers that maybe intensity isn’t always a good thing, it’s yet another relationship she feels is spiraling out of her control.
It’ll take a new role on the school newspaper and a new job at her mom’s tattoo shop for Kellie to realize that defining herself both outside and within her family is what can finally allow her to feel permanent, just like a tattoo.

Confessions of the Very First Zombie Slayer

Confessions of the Very First Zombie Slayer (That I Know Of) by F.J.R. Titchenell

Jolly Fish Press/May 2014
Goodreads
The world is Cassie Fremont’s playground. Her face is on the cover of every newspaper, she has no homework, no curfew, and no credit limit, and she spends her days traveling the country with her friends, including a boy who would flirt with death just to turn her head. Life is just about perfect—except that those newspaper headlines are about her bludgeoning her crush to death with a paintball gun, she has to fight ravenous walking corpses every time she steps outside, and one of her friends is still missing, trapped somewhere in the distant, practically impassable wreckage of Manhattan. Still, Cassie’s an optimist. More prone to hysterical laughter than hysterical tears, she’d rather fight a corpse than be one, and she won’t leave a friend stranded when she can simply take her road trip to impossible new places to find her, even if getting there means admitting to that boy that she might just love him, too. Skillfully blending effective horror with unexpected humor, this diary-format novel is a fast-paced and heartwarming read.

I wanted to read Forever by Judy Blume for my 7th grade book report. My teacher said no way. Did I mention I went to Catholic private school at the time? Yeah….premarital sex was a big no no. Still, I figured Judy Blume was a docile choice compared to the other adult books I was reading at the time.
