A Meth Dealer. A Prostitute. A Serial Killer.

Anywhere else, they’d be vermin. At the Mandel Academy, they’re called prodigies. The most exclusive school in New York City has been training young criminals for over a century. Only the most ruthless students are allowed to graduate. The rest disappear.

Flick, a teenage pickpocket, has risen to the top of his class. But then Mandel recruits a fierce new competitor who also happens to be Flick’s old flame. They’ve been told only one of them will make it out of the Mandel Academy. Will they find a way to save each other—or will the school destroy them both?

Class is now in session at the Mandel Academy, the school for criminals in Kirsten Miller’s new book, How to Lead a Life of Crime! To help you solidify your schedule for the semester, we’re highlighting different class options each day along the tour. Choose your favorites, pick up a copy of How to Lead a Life of Crime, and enroll in the Mandel Academy today!

Excerpt from the Mandel Academy course catalog:

Mining the Masses: Big Profits from Little People
Many students leave the academy with their eyes peeled for a single big score. But those with a little patience find it can be just as rewarding. Some of the largest fortunes in America were built a few cents at a time. Figure out how to take a quarter from every person in America, and you’ll end up with a $75 million fortune. This course will show you how.

This does sound incredibly original. I’ve heard great things about this author in general too, and her Kiki Strike series. This one sounds like tons of fun though!

  2. kaethefierce

I love the premise. Unfortunately, I think I’d be offed by my classmates within a week were I to attend the Mandel Academy. I’m not ruthless at all.

  3. Guppy5700

No Im too chicken to lead a life of crime so attending a school to ‘train’ to be one wouldnt happen. I love to live vicariously through others though, so I’ll just read about it!

  4. brainz4christ

I think I could attend Mandel — I can be cutthroat ambitious when I want to be (not a great trait =/).  But I might not make it physically.  Love the premise!

  5. Anastasia

The plot of this book sound so interesting! such an unique idea! and hmmm it depends, If I really really wanted to I probably would(:

  6. Lisa FicTalk

I really like the idea of this story SO MUCH. I can definitely see myself reading this, but besides the premise, the title and the cover with its colors really attracted me to this book. And now I must read it!

  7. mariya

Well, this is certainly an interesting concept for a book. I like it. . . I think, lol. I don’t think I would want to attend such a school being that I am not a criminal (nor do I wish to be one) but I’d love to read the book instead.

I fell in love with the idea of this book the second I read the blurb. I can’t wait to read it! 🙂

  9. tamara216

I don’t know if I’d fit in at Mandel Academy, but I’d love to try 🙂 I like the premise of this book, it sounds exciting and dangerous.

  10. BritzJones

I really want to read this book! It sounds so exciting, and Steph’s made it sound so funny on Goodreads.

  11. JuliaRainWellman

I probably wouldn’t fit in, unless it was as some kind of civil disobedience scholar. My husband, however…well, if I win, I have a feeling he’ll love this book.

  12. Shelver506

I think the premise is FASCINATING, but no, I wouldn’t fit in well. I’m too much of a straight arrow goodie two-shoes.

  13. Kassidy

Nooo I definitely could not! haha, but I would love to read about the people who do! Thanks for the giveaway!

  14. Angela

I think I’d be an outcast… I’d probably fail in a school like that. It sounds really cool though. Just not for me.

Suuure. That would be really cool. You know, I’ve always wanted an
adventure like that, something that’s not what teenagers normally do. It
    would be really fun!

  16. erinf1

I love the sound of this book! I like how it’s centered on a life of crime 🙂 But I don’t know if I’d attend myself b/c I wouldn’t be any good…

  17. almevk

it look nice the premise …. mmm  mmm i don’t think that i could live like that

  18. zarah

I am loving the outline of this book and am really looking forward to reading it! 😀

  19. SBBCreviews

Oh I’d love to attend a  school like that. It’ll teach me a lot more productive and interesting things than what I learn in my school now so I definitely want to go to this school.
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

This is one of those books I really wanted on Netgalley and was very sad to be rejected for. Sounds so good.

Are you kidding, Mandel Academy or work at office? I’ll have to go with Mandel Academy.

Not sure I could make it at Mandel academy, I think I would prefer dealing with books and normal study sessions. xD
At first glance the idea appeared slightly cheesy/corny but yet fat from boring and well actually unusual/fresh, which is why I would like to read it more than many other YA-novels with a worn-out subject.

  25. SmcGG

This sounds like a mix of Battle Royale, with a dash of Heist Society and Gallagher Girls.
