Blogoversary Day 5: Guest Post by Author Veronica Rossi

Guest Post by Author Veronica Rossi

How do you write an intro to one of the greatest people of our time?  Her official title being Veronica Fucking-Badass Rossi.  Our friendship is as true as the ocean.  Cemented from the first moment she saved my life in a lab experiment gone wrong, and reinforced when we ran an organization to rescue animals from being illegally trafficked and killed.

Not only is she my imaginary girlfriend, but she is an amazing author with Under the Never Sky being one of my favourite series ever.  And now here she is, relating the first time we ever met.  Each and every word is as true as the day I was born in the back caravan of a traveling carnival.  I present to you, my friends, Veronica Rossi:

The story of how Kat Kennedy and I met is well known and oft-recounted. Probably you’ve already heard many times, but allow me to share it again in celebration of Kat and Steph’s blog, the esteemed Cuddlebuggery.com.

Many years ago, long before my acting or Cricket careers, I was working towards a PhD in High Energy Physics at MIT. I had noticed some problems in the work the Swiss were doing with their particle accelerators, and I badly wanted to tell the Swiss that their synchrotron theories were riddled with as many holes as Swiss Cheese.

One wintry morning, I had taken a break to clear my head and was rowing along on the Charles River, gliding past those handsome neo-Georgian buildings of Harvard, when another boat came upon me. It contained a raven-haired woman who called out to me in a voice as clear as crystal, “Is that all you’ve got, mate?”

Her antics did not stop there. She lifted her paddle and splashed me with a wing of frigid water.

Baffled, I shouted back. “Mate? Do you mean the colloquialism used by Australians to refer to friends? Or do you mean a pair that associates in order to propagate? Surely you don’t think me a Naval Officer? Of these choices, I think I prefer the first!” I emphasized my point by splashing her back.

However, she was well ahead of me by then, and so she turned and shouted, “Let’s talk about it over a pint!”

Warming by the fire, Kat Kennedy and I discovered that we shared a great love for the Cockcroft-Walton accelerator. “It’s vastly superior to the Van de Graaf!” Kat Kennedy said with all the enthusiasm of a child. “But you haven’t seen real acceleration until you’ve seen a cheetah!”

By then I knew we’d be mates for life. I knew that the relationship we’d form would recreate the word ‘mate.’ Applied to us, the meaning would be singular. Unique. Historic.

Our trips began immediately after this first fortuitous meeting. We fondly dubbed them Kat and Veronica’s Acceleration Adventures. Oh, did we have laugh over that one! The first trip, of course, was a Safari. Kat and I dearly loved the cheetahs. Such spectacular, leggy creatures. “Pharaohs of the Serengeti!” Kat Kennedy decreed. Her way with words is breathtaking.

Personally, I’m partial to our stint as NASCAR drivers. Speed thrills, as they say, and I’m fond of any vehicle with soldiered doors. I think, however, that if Kat and I are successful in persuading NASA to reopen the astronaut program for us, which I have every reason to believe will happen, space will be our finest achievement. My anticipation is tremendous!

And so, in summation, I affectionately say to you, Kat Kennedy: thank you for the adventures, mate.

Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland – known as The Death Shop – are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild – a savage – and her only hope of staying alive.

A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile – everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

It’s been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don’t take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe’s precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a captivating love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

Okay, you guys have to stop making go ‘They got him/her to do a guest post for their blogoversary?!’.
This happens every day and it’s getting pretty ridiculous.
I liked Under the Never Sky and I’m pretty sure I will LOVE Through the Ever Night (from what little I’ve read) simply because I’ve really warmed up to Aria and Perry and the existence of Roar. Actually, it’s mainly because there’s so much more of Roar and quite frankly, there can never be too much <3

  3. erinf1

WOW! And to think that the rest of us slugs just go about regular life, unknowing of how the better half live. Siiiigh. I guess I would just have to be content w/ reading Through the Ever Night since my year of begging and panhandling has finally paid off enough for me to get Under the Never Sky. I’m gonna have to read it by bic lighter but it’ll be worth it!

I haven’t yet read UNDER THE NEVER SKY (I know, I know, I sorely behind on all these obviously amazing books!), so I guess I’ll choose that. 🙂 Happy Blogoversary again, Cuddlebuggery! (Oh, Kat. I always knew your charms to make friends were impossible to resist. Veronica is proof enough for that!)
